CMA CGM Launches First Fully Electric Barge on Dong Nai River
CMA CGM deploys a fully electric barge on the Cai Mep - Binh Duong route transporting Nike goods — a major step in green logistics strategy.
CMA CGM has officially launched Vietnam's first 100% electric barge on the inland waterway route along the Dong Nai River, connecting the Cai Mep port area with Binh Duong province.
The electric barge is used to transport goods for Nike — one of CMA CGM's largest clients in Vietnam — completely eliminating CO2 emissions on the domestic transport segment.
This forms part of CMA CGM's comprehensive decarbonization strategy in Vietnam, including fleet conversion to clean engines, biofuel use, and transport route optimization to reduce travel distances.
Industry experts assess that electric barges will become an inevitable trend for inland waterway transport in Vietnam, particularly as international brands increasingly demand sustainable supply chains.
